Dear MEN WSC Members:

As your water service provider, we are working hard to ensure your water rates remain affordable. As you may know, the Texas Legislative session is underway and there is one piece of legislation in particular, Senate Bill 2026, that cannot pass or your water rates will increase in the furture.

While we are not preseently in a Ground Water District but because the surface water supply is limited, we still at some point in time will need to tap and treat the large supply of brackish water that exists in our area. For this reason, the bill will not affect our customers now but will in the future if passed because only very large land owners will benefit from it.

In short, this bill would require water utilities in GCDs to purchase additional land or water rights to obtain the water our customers need, resulting in higher prices to our customers--YOU.
